Games lessons play a major part in school life.
Sport is an important part of the school day at Chinthurst. Children are given the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities and sports and teachers work hard to find a sport that each child enjoys. All children in the Upper School receive a weekly PE lesson and have games twice per week. The Lower School children also have a weekly PE lesson; one games lesson per week and a weekly swimming lesson, all of which are taught by specialist staff.
The major sports are:
Autumn - Football, Rugby, Netball
Spring - Rugby, Hockey
Summer - Cricket, Athletics
Topics covered in PE lessons include - Throwing & Catching, Striking skills, Invasion Games, Gymnastics, Swimming, Short Tennis and Basketball.
Matches are regularly played against local schools and it is always our aim to put as many teams out as possible so that all children get a chance to represent the school. Teams will also be entered into competitions, both locally and nationally. Our extra-curricular programme is very extensive with many sporting activities taking place. We also have a coaching session on Saturday mornings, from 9 to 10 am, where all children from reception to year 6 may attend for a coaching session in the major sport for that term.
